Your Flooring Design Questions - solved

People often contact us asking what type of natural stone would suit their needs best. Here’s a few of the most popular questions we get - and the answers.

Q. I’m going for the contemporary look. 50″plasma, dark leather furniture, completely minimalist - I want a hard wearing floor that won’t need much taking care of - what do you recommend?

A. Any type of natural stone will help you create the look you want. It’s fresh, it’s contemporary and it’s hard wearing. A natural stone floor can even add value to your home. In your case I would recommend travertine. It can vary in colour considerably so I do recommend that you collect a good range of samples before you make your choice. The creamy, beige background colour can work well as both a walling or floor option.

IVORY TRAVERTINE

ivory Travertine Hones and Filled for only £25.00 m2 inc VAT.

Or

Polished Travertine

EXCLUSIVE TO FLOORELL - Classic Light Travertine Tiles- Transparent Filled and Polished £ 50.00 m2 inc VAT.

If you want all the beauty of travertine, with very little maintenance then Classic Light Travertine Transparent Filled and Polished could be for you. It’s unique as it has a polyester transparent filler material that makes the tile stronger and enables the travertine to have a high glossy finish. The background colour seems to change from a walnut to cream, this is due to the way it’s cut. As for maintenance simply run a damp mop over it every now and then, then sit back and watch it shine.

Q. I love natural stone in bathrooms but am worried about it getting wet I heard it may cause it to crack or form holes in it. I am looking for tile to put around my sink and in my bathroom in general.  Got any ideas?

A. The good news is natural stone is fine in the bathroom as long as you seal it first. We sell a full range of sealants and instructions on how to maintain your stone can be found on our website. I recommend marble for behind the sink as it is less porous than many stones and is hard wearing, but still looks gorgeous just take a look the images below.

Q. We’re converting a farmhouse and want to maintain the traditional feel of the house, but with adding a contemporary edge. We like the idea of limestone, but don’t know how practical it would be - plus we’re on a tight budget!

A. The good news is limestone is perfectly practical in every way. Once it’s sealed correctly you can just get on with your every day life and not worry about the consequences. A popular and affordable choice is shown in the image below:

Jerusalem Antique Gold Limestone Tumbled for only £ 29.99 per m2 inc VAT.

I don’t know what kind of colour scheme you ha din mind, but the creamy coloured stone will work well with anything, giving you free reign to try anything. As the stone is tumbled it will help add to the character of the farmhouse. It can create a very relaxed atmosphere, but still boasts of a little glamour. It’s ideal for you as the are very hard wearing and great for high trafficked areas.
