What is Marble?

May 14, 2008 – 12:56 pm

Want a floor with the ‘wow’ factor? Then install some marble. It’s unique veining pattern helps create a unique and timeless looking floor every time. Marble is making a come back. Most people’s view of marble are the sweeping staircases that were featured in Dallas and Dynasty. But things have moved on and marble is now openly available for everyone - not just the rich and famous.

Marble is just crystallized limestone. It comes in many different colours and usually displays a veining pattern. It’s nice to think that marble has been marked with the veins of time, and each and every mark has a piece of history stuck in it. Marble isn’t for everyone. It’s more porous than granite, which makes it more susceptible to staining and therefore is more suitable for foyers, bathrooms, fireplaces or libraries. it is common to use marble with a lightly polished finish, which does effect the slip resistance of the floor - so just bear that in mind if you’ve got young children running around.

What is Travertine?

May 14, 2008 – 12:42 pm

Travertine has quickly become the ‘must have’ natural stone of the century.  It’s for people who are after something a little different. It has a beautiful unique look. This is due to the ‘fill’ process it undergoes. In its rawest from travertine has thousands of hole running through it, these holes are filled, then the stone is polished. The result is a beautiful contrast - part of the tile has a sheen, yet the filled areas remain dull, offering you a completely unique floor. Once installed it looks amazing, working well with both contemporary modern looks as well as classically aged themes.

If you choose to buy travertine you need to be aware that is is an unpredictable product. Its performance greatly depends on the size and density of the holes in it. Whilst the filling process can deal with the surface holes, the internal ones can not be dealt with unless they actually cause a problem.

At Floorell we undertake vigorous testing to ensure our travertine is one of the highest quality, we doubt you will have any problems, but we feel it is only fair to  be honest about the nature of the product. We also provide a free maintenance package that includes filler and instruction on how to deal with the holes if they do occur. We provide this information free with all travertine orders.

Just take a look around our website to see our full range. If you have any questions give our Sales Team a call on: 01727 800 313.

Floorell’s - What’s hot…

April 30, 2008 – 11:11 am

Floorell’s what’s hot this year…

This section is all about the latest flooring trends and what we at Floorell believe is going to big this year. We’re not interior design gurus, but what we do know about, is great flooring. So here are our thoughts…

The current trend is still for a modern, contemporary look, but gone are the hard stainless steel accessories. People want softness and warmth to a room rather than harsh lines. The good thing about having natural stone flooring is that, whatever look is hot that season; it gives you a good base to work from. It allows you to recreate your ideal room over and over again. Stone floors are easy to maintain and have a longevity not offered by other flooring options. Once the floor is down it can remain there indefinitely. A stone floor, unlike a carpet, won’t date and, quite literally, gives a firm foundation on which to build any interior design scheme.

Set yourself free

Choosing a neutral base stone like Ivory Light Travertine (honed and filled) or Crema Marfil Classico Marble, is a great way to give yourself freedom of design. Make it into a Mediterranean style haven with deep red walls, amber colored vases and stonewash throws. Or go for a more contemporary look with cream leather couches, chocolate walls and black accessories. The possibilities are endless. In the home, invest your money in classic, timeless flooring and a few pieces of good quality furniture and you will have laid down the foundations for creating a look for any room in the house.

Express yourself

Last year we saw a big drive towards the natural look; this look is still with us this year, with a slight edge. People are always looking for something new and different to add to their style. That’s why at Floorell we are always bringing in new types of stone, wood and porcelain that you won’t see anywhere else. Be daring and opt for a stunning Jura Blue Grey Honed Limestone or create a feature wall made of Woodland Green Riven Slate. The choice is yours.

Wood you?

But it’s not just stone tiles that can give you freedom; wood is fastly becoming popular again. Our Oak Plank Beveled comes in a full range of grades and finishes. So you can tailor the design to your style, Nature, country, spring, summer, canyon all grades that can match your personality and add depth to a room. If you want a neutral wooden base to work from try Solid Oak (white oiled) or Solid Oak Aged Wood Flooring.

Don’t compromise

With our new range of underfloor heating, gone are the days of worrying if natural stone flooring or wooden flooring would be cold. People are enjoying the new found freedom that a warm floor can provide. You definitely get more out of your floor if it’s warm and heats up a room. For those with young children wipable floors are ideal. Spilled drinks, potty training, and temper tantrums – that’s a lot for a floor to handle. Not only can our range of flooring handle the daily battle, it cal also be warm whilst doing it. Now with advancements in underfloor heating you’ll be able to enjoy the beauty of natural flooring such as wood, stone or porcelain but still have a warm floor. Genius.

Always here to help

Don’t forget that our Sales Team are always happy to discuss your needs with you. They’re trained to advise you what borders match with which stone, what floorboards will meet your needs, which porcelain tiles will add to your home. So why not give them a call now on 01727 800 313 and start turning your flooring dreams into a reality?
